“3-9 November Organ Donation Week” event was held

Diseases that can only be treated with organ and tissue transplantation constitute one of the important health problems in our country as well as in the whole world. The most important goal of organ transplantation; It is to save the life of a patient who has come to the end of his life due to organ failure and to increase his life expectancy and quality. Every year in our country, between 3-9 November, 'Organ Donation and Transplant Week' is celebrated and activities are held in this context. Organ Donation and Transplant Week event was held on November 1, 2022 at our University Ağdacı Conference Hall in cooperation with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Vocational School of Health Services in order to increase the level of knowledge about organ donation in the society and to raise awareness of organ donation at our University. Event Deputy Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences Assoc. Dr. Moderated by Elif Karahan, "What You Need to Know About Organ Donation and Brain Death" was presented by Bartın State Hospital Organ Tissue Coordinator Nurse Mualla ALAÇAM. In his presentation, Mr. ALAÇAM; brain death and its causes, the differences between brain death and vegetative life, the decision-making process of brain death, how to donate organs, the features sought in organ transplantation, which organs and tissues can be donated, National Coordination Regions, the functioning of the Organ and Tissue Transplantation Coordinatorship, Turkey' The place of organ transplantation in the legislation in Turkey (2238. Law), the religious dimension of organ donation and donation rates.
In the event, which received intense participation, questions about organ donation were asked by the students of our University, academic and administrative staff, and nurses working in the clinical field. During the event, brochures containing the things to know about "Organ and Tissue Transplant Donation" prepared by the Provincial Health Directorate were distributed. At the end of the training and information on organ donation, many participants filled out the Organ Donation Form on the event booth and donated. In the event where awareness increased, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Assoc. Dr. Elif KARAHAN and Director of Health Services Vocational School Dr. Instructor Member Hacer YALNIZ DİLCEN presented a Certificate of Appreciation and flowers to the speaker Nurse Mualla ALAÇAM.
We would like to thank Nurse Mualla ALAÇAM who participated in the event as a speaker, the valuable participants who showed interest and participated in our event, the lecturers and students who took part in the event.
