An important health problem today is substance abuse, which has reached serious numbers in society. Reports published in Turkey draw attention to the increase in substance use in recent years, especially among young people. Substance abuse affects not only the individual but also his/her environment and even society. It is known that substance abuse leads to many physical, mental, social and legal problems over time. For this reason, it is essential to carry out addiction prevention activities. In this context, March 1-7 every year in our country is celebrated as “Green Crescent Week,” and it is aimed to strengthen the fight against addictions such as tobacco, alcohol, drugs, technology and gambling.
A booth event was held on March 4, 2025, within the scope of Green Crescent Week, organized by Bartın University Faculty of Health Sciences in collaboration with the Green Crescent Student Club, targeting university students and staff. At the stand, posters and brochures provided with the support of the Green Crescent Counseling Center (YEDAM) Bartın branch were distributed to the participants, and Asst. Prof. Duygu ÖZER informed the participants about “what is addiction?”, “the harms of addiction”, “ways to prevent addiction”, and “treatment services” and answered their questions. With this event that raises awareness about addiction, our university continues to contribute to the efforts to protect and improve the health of society.
