Students from the Department of Midwifery at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Bartın University, carried out a significant social responsibility initiative aimed at protecting women's health and increasing public awareness of cancer screening as part of the Social Responsibility Project course.

Led by Project Coordinator Ayşegül Nisa Sağır and prepared by researchers Pınar Erdem, Hayriye Kübra Eker, Sudenaz Yıldırım, and Esra Aydın under the supervision of Dr. Lecturer Yeliz Çakır Koçak, the project entitled "Give Life More Time with Early Detection" was approved by the Bartın University Social Responsibility Project Coordination Office and successfully implemented.

As part of the project, educational and cancer screening awareness activities were organized for women aged 45 years and older living in the rural areas of Kozcağız, Amasra, Hasankadı, and Yıldız Village in Bartın, where access to healthcare services is limited. In addition to announcements made through village headmen, midwifery students personally contacted women and invited them to participate in the educational sessions. Transportation for participants to the Bartın Şehit Furkan Yılmaz Healthy Life Center was provided with the support of vehicles and personnel assigned by the Bartın Provincial Health Directorate.

Hosted by the Bartın Şehit Furkan Yılmaz Healthy Life Center and conducted under the guidance of healthcare professionals, the educational sessions covered breast self-examination, mammography, breast cancer, cervical cancer, Pap smear testing for HPV screening, and the importance of the fecal occult blood test, supported by visual educational materials. Informative brochures carrying social awareness messages, designed by the students, were distributed to participants with the printing support of a volunteer donor. At the end of the program, efforts were made to reduce women's fears and misconceptions regarding cancer screening and to encourage them to benefit from the national cancer screening program.

Supporting the national cancer screening program implemented by the Ministry of Health at the local level, the project contributed to strengthening preventive healthcare services while demonstrating the active role of future midwives in community-based health services. By transferring their professional knowledge and skills into practice, the students helped raise women's awareness of early detection and improve their access to preventive health services.

Implemented in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the project directly contributed to the goals of "Quality Education" and "Good Health and Well-being". Through educational materials produced with the support of a volunteer donor, it also supported "Responsible Consumption and Production", while the collaboration established among the Bartın Provincial Health Directorate, the Healthy Life Center, and local authorities contributed to "Partnerships for the Goals". Serving as a successful example of university–public–community collaboration, the project reinforced Bartın University's vision of transforming theoretical education into tangible social benefit and made a valuable contribution to expanding preventive healthcare services and promoting women's health.
