BARU continues to heal the wounds of the earthquake with science

Bartın University (BARU) will conduct research on the implementation of an early rehabilitation program for those who have lost a limb in earthquakes, which are described as the 'disaster of the century'.

 

Dr. from Bartın University (BARU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing. Instructor The project, led by its member Sibel Altıntaş, was found eligible to be supported within the scope of "TÜBİTAK 1002-B Emergency Support Module". With the project titled "Preparing Individuals Experiencing Extremity Loss Due to Earthquake for the Future with Early Rehabilitation Program", the support processes of individuals with extremity loss will be contributed. In the project, which aims to minimize the negativities that individuals may experience during their life with the early rehabilitation program, BARU Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Prof. Sevim Çelik from the Faculty of Health Sciences. Dr. Elif Karahan, Res. See. Özge Uçar and Res. See. Meryem Yucel will also take part.

 

Drawing attention to the magnitude of the disaster in Kahramanmaraş, Dr. Altıntaş said, “Our aim with the project is to increase the coping levels of the individuals who survived the earthquake during the amputation process and to ensure that they take a safer path to the future.”

 

Dr. Underlining that the studies to be carried out will be a descriptive reference, Altıntaş said, “Especially early rehabilitation, which is the subject of the project, is of great importance in terms of minimizing the negativities that these individuals may experience during their life. Early assessment and management of amputation-related problems will be handled carefully in order not to disrupt this aspect of care for individuals who have suffered amputation after the catastrophe of the century. In this context, our project will be beneficial in terms of being a descriptive reference research, supporting healthcare professionals in the region, and enabling patients to lead a healthier life in the future.”

 

Noting that the BARÜ family, together with all its components, made great efforts to heal the wounds, Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun said, “We experienced a great disaster covering 11 provinces of our country and showing its effect on an area of approximately 500 square kilometers. After these earthquakes, which are described as the disaster of the century, we continue to work with our scientists from different disciplines. With these thoughts, our Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Special thanks to Sevim Çelik for her efforts.
