Obesity, one of the most significant health problems globally, is acknowledged as a major risk factor, especially for chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart diseases, and joint pains. An increase in the burden of disease is expected for future generations due to obesity. Therefore, creating awareness about obesity and its detrimental effects in society is crucial. With this aim, the Faculty of Health Sciences at Bartin University organized the "Obesity Awareness Event" on December 25, 2023.
As part of the event, participants underwent height-weight measurements, and Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations were performed.A total of 68 individuals, including faculty members, administrative staff, and students of our university, participated in the event, demonstrating significant interest. Measurements and calculations were conducted with the support of the Nursing Department students and faculty members of the Department of Basic Nursing Principles, and the results were shared with the participants. Following the measurements, participants provided valuable feedback, expressing increased awareness about their body mass indices. They also indicated their commitment to enhancing physical activities and giving importance to healthy eating. We extend our gratitude to the esteemed participants who contributed to the success of our event.
