An Event titled “Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment, Current Approaches in Care and Nursing” was Organized by the Nursing Department

Cancer is one of the most common fatal diseases that negatively affect the quality of life of patients worldwide. With advances in science and technology, significant progress has been made in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of cancer. To provide a perspective on these developments, the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, held an online event called “Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment, Current Approaches in Care and Nursing” on July 04 2023, within the scope of World Cancer Day.
The event, moderated by Assoc. Dr. Ayfer BAYINDIR ÇEVİK, and the event was began with the presentation by Bartın University Faculty of Science Department of Genetics Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Sevgi ÜNAL KARAKUŞ. Mr. Assoc. Dr. Sevgi ÜNAL KARAKUS shared important information about oncogenes, proto-oncogenes, the mechanism of cancer formation, the importance of genetics in cancer, the importance of enzymes and artificial intelligence in cancer diagnosis, and the reflection of artificial intelligence on nursing practices in her presentation on current cancer diagnosis and methods. The event was attended by the Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing faculty member Prof. Dr. Gülbeyaz CAN's presentation. In her presentation entitled Nursing Care in Immunotherapy, Gülbeyaz CAN provided detailed information about the development process of immunotherapies, which is one of the newly developed treatment methods for cancer, its mechanism of action, in which tumors are used, organ toxicities that may develop in the patient, and nursing care in developing side effects.
