"Midwifery Symposium in a Changing World" was held

At the symposium held by the Faculty of Health Sciences of our university, approaches to midwifery services in the developing and changing world were discussed.

The "Midwifery Symposium in a Changing World" was held by the Faculty of Health Sciences of our University within the scope of the 21-28 April National Midwives Week. 1,143 people from Turkey and abroad attended the event, where the current situation and future applications in midwifery services were discussed with different perspectives.

Our University Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun's wife, Hatice Uzun, said that midwives fulfill an important role in the formation of a healthy individual, family and society.

"Midwifery is one of the indispensable elements of our health system"

Stating that the midwifery profession is one of the oldest and first holistic professions in the world in terms of its history and functionality, Uzun said, “Midwifery profession, which exists all over the world to protect and raise family health, is among the indispensable professions for the society with this important mission. . Midwives are with the family before birth. During and after the birth, the midwives are near the mother and the child. They help a new creature to be born. They relieve the pain of a mother suffering from labor pain. They enable families to embrace their long-awaited newest members. Midwives, who have a respectable place in the society, are also the health counselors of the woman, the family and the society. It is one of the indispensable elements of our health system. " said.

"Midwives have a very important place in our society"

Providing information about the midwifery profession, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Sevim Çelik said, “Midwifery is a professional profession formed by people who are responsible for the diagnosis and supervision of pregnancy during pregnancy. The importance of midwives is indisputable for the mother to be healthy during pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby. Midwives who try to fulfill their duties and responsibilities with heavy sacrifices are indispensable elements of our health system. Unfortunately, the importance of midwives cannot be understood at the desired level. We strive to bring the voices and problems of our midwives to more masses and find solutions through the activities we do. " he spoke.

Underlining that as the Faculty of Health Sciences, they strive to work in a structure that adds value to the future, Çelik said, “As a new faculty, we have made important gains in a short time. By ensuring the proficiency of faculty members and laboratories in our faculty, we aim to recruit students to our Midwifery Department in 2022 and to train qualified midwives. " used the expressions.

Our University Health Services Vocational School Director, Symposium President Dr. Faculty Member Hacer Yalnız Dilcen emphasized the importance of the midwifery profession and said, “The findings showing the development level of a country are maternal mortality rate, fertility rate, infant mortality rate. All of these are included in midwifery services. Good management of midwifery services will contribute to the development of the country. The World Health Organization estimates that 83 percent of all maternal deaths, stillbirths and newborn deaths can be prevented by midwifery care programs. " He spoke in the form.

Following the opening speeches, the symposium started with the "Midwifery in Different Eyes" session. In this session, Eskişehir Osmangazi University Health Sciences Faculty Midwifery Department Head and Anatolian Midwives Association President Prof. Dr. Fatma Deniz Sayıner "Birth Under Midwife Leadership", Expert Midwife Ayşegül Kurt from Izmir Democracy University Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital "Midwifery Through Midwife in Turkey", Op. Dr. Handan Yılmaz Palta made his presentation titled "Midwifery in the Eyes of a Physician in Turkey and England".

In the session titled "Midwifery Services in the Developing and Changing World" held in the afternoon, Dr. Res. See. Yeliz Çakır Koçak "Empowering Midwives for a Healthy Tomorrow with ICM Themes", Res. Asst. See. Güldane Damla Kaya "Examples of Midwifery Innovation in the World", Dr. Lecturer See. Yasemin Erkal Aksoy made her speech on "Telemedicine" Practices in Midwifery Services in a Changing World.

After the questions and suggestions of the participants, the Symposium President Dr. Lecturer It concluded with the closing speech of its Member, Hacer Yalnız, thanking all speakers and participants for their contributions.
