An online Seminar on the Child Protection System in the UK was organized.
An online seminar titled “Child Protection System in the UK” was held in our faculty with the participation of Ali ISTANBULLU, Social Work Specialist and Director of London Hackney Family Intervention and Support Center, on 9th of December, 2024. The seminar, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge ÖZGÜR, a faculty member of Bartın University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Social Work, was prepared for the faculty members and students of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The seminar focused on the history and organization of the UK child protection system. Starting from the Children's Convention of 1889, an important milestone in developing the child protection system, the basic elements of modern child protection services were presented. Mr. İstanbullu emphasized the importance of practices to protect children from physical, emotional and sexual abuse and detailed the responsibilities of local authorities and social workers in this process. In addition, the role of multi-disciplinary work in child protection services, information-sharing processes, and the duties of social service professionals were also discussed. Challenges in the child protection system and solutions were also shared with the participants. The event, which was enriched with questions and answers and participants' contributions, aimed to increase awareness and knowledge in the field of child protection. At the end of the event, participants gained a comprehensive perspective on the development process of child protection services.
